The current rise in depression, addiction, and suicide make it clear that the paradigm of masculinity we have inherited no longer works. The very term "masculine" sparks controversy - far too much damage has been done by misunderstanding what constitutes masculine, and associating it with biological maleness, domination and endless drive for power. However, the inclination to abandon or cancel masculine principles shows a misunderstanding of what an integrated and liberated masculinity can provide. The new paradigm of masculinity is starting to poke. The cultural landscape of now is more ready than ever to support understanding of how masculinity can inspire, support and serve the world. This paradigm tries to clarify what masculinity is today and how it can be cultivated as a transformative, energetic gift rather than the gender-based labels we have been forced to wear. "sleepers" is a series contributing to this new masculine paradigm, asserting that emotional depth and vulnerability are at the core of the masculine. When fully embraced, vulnerability can be truly a healing and empowering force, allowing the masculine to be spacious and liberated. This series reclaims vulnerability as part of what it means to be masculine today and that this is nothing that men, in particular, should shy away from, but proudly embrace.
